Born and brought up in Geneva (Switzerland), Julien Laederach spent some years of his life abroad. He has always been passionate about teaching French and accumulated many years of experience in this field. His interest in knowing different cultures and socializing actively with people around the world led him to extensive travel in more than 25 different countries. Awarded a Master’s Degree in Human Geography specialized in Economic and Social History at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, University of Geneva (Switzerland), he developed his knowledge in culture through his studies and travels. His background enables him to incorporate cultural aspects in the learning process and adapt his courses to the audience. Julien Laederach first worked for 4 years in Switzerland as a Private tutor for students who needed help with their school work: “This was my first experience of teaching. I taught more than 100 students & learnt the psychology & difficulties of students and the techniques & requisites of a teacher to eradicate them. It instilled in me the love, style & manner of teaching, which I have strived to develop ever since. It also gave me recognition as a teacher through references by word of mouth.” Then, he worked for 3 years as a French teacher for foreigners (mostly expatriates) at the Varadi Institute of Applied Linguistics and Professional Communication in Geneva: “This job has permitted me to develop my skills in instruction. The students belonged to many nationalities, and most of them were working for multinational companies based in Geneva. I worked primarily with Indian students because I was recognized for understanding them better than my colleagues did.” During that time, Julien Laederach decided to set up his own company "Julien Läderach's French Lessons for Expatriates" as a sole proprietor in Geneva: “I offered contractual outsourcing of French teaching to associates of companies and their families. My lessons focused on cultural topics. I have worked with associates of many multinational organisations in Geneva. This Company enabled me to develop an international network.” His last employment was in Chennai (India) where he joined Satyam Computer Services Ltd as a Subject Matter Expert in Satyam Learning World, School of Management, Culture and Foreign Language Education: “I taught French in Classrooms, Internet or video conferences for associates located in various parts of the world. Moreover, I conducted training programs for Soft skills and French for the associates working in India on projects with French speaking customers. I also took care of the preparation of training content, assessments and presentations of the programs and developed games and ideas regarding trainings & cultural events. On the cultural administration side, I was responsible for designing, delivering and coordinating all kinds of cultural overview programs of Satyam related to Europe, Africa and South America and for preparing country guides and language booklets for onsite travelers. I also organized cultural events such as “Francophonic Day” (celebrating the French speaking countries around the world) and “Switzerland Day Program” as parts of culture and foreign language initiatives. In general, I participated actively in the management of the Culture and Foreign Languages department. This experience also served as a rich training ground for me to learn other skills (such as team work, leadership and understanding of systems and processes) and use them to their maximum advantage. In Satyam Learning World, I consistently maintained a rating of >4 (very good) on a scale of 1-5 (5= excellent) in the feedback forms I received after each program as a training facilitator.”
